Reasons for Optimism - LOVE this!

I discovered this clip for a movie I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE - from my favorite book from childhood on this website:

Editors Note:
It's easy to forget that in today's not-so-optimistic world real progress continues, beauty appears, brave new worlds are explored, and creativity flows. We keep seeking—and occasionally finding—our best selves. There are, in fact, reasons for optimism everywhere we look.

Everyone Needs VALIDATION!

Here's to short films - it's a challenging art form to engage your audience to care about the protagonist. I think this little gem does it perfectly! P.

Vancouver is READY for the Olympic Spotlight....

Said the headline in the USA Today's Travel/Destination Section.

By Jayne Clark, USA TODAY
VANCOUVER, B.C. — As the Olympic countdown clock outside the Vancouver Art Gallery struck 6 p.m. on Feb. 12, exactly one year before the kickoff of the 2010 Winter Games, air horns blasted from the distinctive white-sails rooftop of Canada Place convention center. A squadron of celebratory torch-bearing skiers hurtled down Grouse Mountain above the city. Diners in restaurants laid down their forks and applauded. And a few hundred street protesters torched an Olympic flag.

‘You’ve got to find what you Love,’ Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, Commencement Address for Stanford Grads:

"I am honoured to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots..."

A friend read this to me last week when I was feeling defeated by my present circumstance... It really helped put things into perspective.  I pass this on to you with peace & love. xo P.

TED Conference: J.J. Abrams: The mystery box

It's funny, in the last 24 hours... I've had emotional conversations about the influence my Grandmother's unconditional love has had on me, as well as passionate conversations about how I adore my MacBook computer, which has only added fuel to my love of film, writing and run on sentances... How do these things relate? Well J.J. Abrams manages to connect the dots perfectly in this entertaining clip. Enjoy! xo P.

Hot Pink Flying Saucers & Other Clouds...

Is the name of a book published by The Cloud Appreciation Society, which was "formed in the summer of 2004 in order to fight the banality of 'blue-sky thinking' and to remind people that clouds are one of Nature's most beautiful and life-giving phenomena."

The MANIFESTO of
The Cloud Appreciation Society

WE BELIEVE that clouds are unjustly maligned
and that life would be immeasurably poorer without them.

We think that they are Nature’s poetry,
and the most egalitarian of her displays, since
everyone can have a fantastic view of them.

We pledge to fight ‘blue-sky thinking’ wherever we find it.
Life would be dull if we had to look up at
cloudless monotony day after day.

We seek to remind people that clouds are expressions of the
atmosphere’s moods, and can be read like those of
a person’s countenance.

Clouds are so commonplace that their beauty is often overlooked.
They are for dreamers and their contemplation benefits the soul.
Indeed, all who consider the shapes they see in them will save
on psychoanalysis bills.

And so we say to all who’ll listen:
Look up, marvel at the ephemeral beauty, and live life
with your head in the clouds!

I was introduced to this society today when I opened my mail, inside was the loveliest of gifts... This tiny little book, this book of clouds named: Hot Pink Flying Saucers & Other Clouds. For those of you who know me well, you know that I have a Cloud Photo Collection (several posted here on this blog). No one knows this better than my gal pal Danielle from Kauai, who I have forced to look up more than once to notice just how beautiful these natural wonders can be.

I think why I am compelled to Cloud Watch is because one of my favorite memories of my Mother is laying in a park in North Vancouver when I was approximately 4. We were laying on our backs looking up at the clouds interpreting their shapes. The fact she took the time to relax and play with my imagination will never be forgotten.

Here's to special memories from childhood and lazy afternoons at the beach...
Thank-you Ms. D. for your thoughtfulness, you made me smile today. xo P.
